Letter Grade Designation

The South Conway County School District is proud to announce that Morrilton Junior High School (MJHS) has earned an “A” letter grade for the 2024–2025 school year, marking the first official “A” in district history.

The Arkansas Department of Education will release the official letter grades this Friday, and MJHS’s achievement stands as a historic milestone for both the school and the district. Just two years ago, MJHS held a “C” rating. Through focused effort, relentless belief in student success, and consistent high-level instruction, the school has climbed to the top tier of performance.

“This accomplishment is the result of dedicated leadership, outstanding teachers, and students who rose to meet high expectations,” said Shawn Halbrook, Superintendent of SCCSD. “Morrilton Junior High School has proven that when a school community believes every child can achieve, and works every day to make that belief a reality, remarkable things happen.”

The district credits this achievement to several key practices at MJHS:

  • Grade-level instruction delivered every day.

  • A strong curriculum in every subject area.

  • High expectations for all students, regardless of background.

  • A focus on essential standards to ensure mastery.

  • Consistency and belief—the conviction that every student will succeed.

Principal Robert Hogan expressed pride in the staff and students, saying, “This ‘A’ belongs to our entire school community. Our teachers push themselves to give students the best instruction possible, and our students have shown that they can rise to the challenge. This is only the beginning of what we can achieve together.”

The district emphasized that MJHS will now serve as a model for other schools, showing that with the right attitude, expectations, and commitment, all students can succeed.
